This year, I was privileged to have visited our Nation’s Capital the same week as the centenary celebrations. To witness the splendour of thousands of knitted and crotched bright red poppies, created as part of the Remembrance Day tributes, was both moving and awe-inspiring.

Many thousands of dollars were raised towards funding a breast cancer nurse on the Tablelands and the event will hopefully become an annual event. Sue Poggioli was determined to make Yungaburra the first 'Pink' Village - and she achieved it in spades!

Yungaburra - Cooler than Cairns....Yungaburra uses that as an advertising catch phrase - but it has been very much truer in the last few days of cold weather experienced right across Queensland - and has come as something of a wake up call for ex-Darwinites. After 15 years in the real tropics, the idea of wearing uggboots was looked upon as an anathema - but now seems very much more attractive! Lucy the Brussels Griffon may weigh only a couple of kilos and resemble a slightly bedraggled Ewok, but in her heart she is a lioness, prowling the plains of the Serengeti. The morning walk along the creek has become a much looked forward to daily adventure.
