All the latest news from the Curtain Fig Motel. Travel tips, places to go and food reviews, our blog is your guide to having a memorable stay in Yungaburra.
A few years ago whilst living in the Northern Territory, Mark and I were lucky enough to visit Bamarru Plains, a very upmarket Bush Lodge in the middle of Arnhem Land. It was an incredible experience, most memorable for the huge refectory table where all the guests ate together each night. No ‘A La Carte’ menu – we all ate whatever the Chef had put together that night. It was the ultimate date for foodies – the Chef produced wonderful food and the shared experience was a delight.
Since setting up our Motel in Yungaburra Mark and I have tried to replicate this experience for our guests, and it has been well received. We often have groups of up to ten unrelated couples dining together and have made many friendships as a result. The fact that Mark and I are both foodies and share a joy in cooking helps, of course. The wealth of shared recipes, blogs and demonstration videos available on the internet is a major assistance – plus the fact that I am glued to every MasterChef season and have a library of recipes from contestants giving me lots of inspiration for menus.
I grew up in a family that ate together at the dinner table every night and that relationship building memory is something to treasure. Our motel venture has provided a great way of making similar treasured memories; I hope that our guests take away the same pleasure that we find in sharing.
